Genevieve Rhoades, 88

SOUTH WHITLEY — Genevieve M. Rhoades, 88, of South Whitley, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City where she had been a resident since October.
She was born April 22, 1923, in Jefferson Township, a daughter of Orton E. and Joy L. (Robinson) Schoenauer.
At the age of six, her family moved to Columbia City. She completed her education at Columbia City High School.
On July 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ralph Schneider. They made their home in Columbia City. Following Mr. Schneider’s death in 1961, Genevieve moved to South Whitley.
On Nov. 7, 1964, she was united in marriage to William D. Rhoades. Mr. Rhoades died Oct. 14, 1996.
She was employed at Columbia Woolen Mill, Blue Bell, Heckman Bindery, Bresnehan Rest Home and Bowers Restaurant.
Her memberships included North Manchester American Legion Auxiliary, Columbia City V.F.W. Post #5582 Auxiliary and South Whitley AmVets Post #2919 Auxiliary.
Surviving relatives include two step sons, Dennis W. (Kathy) Rhoades of South Whitley and Gregory A. Rhoades of Schererville; a step grandson, Douglas Rhoades of South Whitley.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ellouise E. Naylor.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley with visitation after 9 a.m. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
