Gertrude Vaughn, 96

Gertrude A. Vaughn, 96, peacefully went into the arms of her Lord, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Towne House Health and Rehabilitation Home, Fort Wayne.
Born in her family home near Arcola, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Bergman) Gerding and was the oldest member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne before the family moved to New Haven. She married Marion E. Vaughn March 31, 1940 who preceded her in death in 1985.
After she graduated valedictorian from Arcola High School, she enrolled and graduated from Indiana Business College. She was active in her church and a volunteer at Lutheran Life Villages for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Rev. David) Mommens of Columbia City; and Carolyn (Don) Hastings of Lynchburg, Ohio; sister, Dorothea Crawford of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Gerding; and grandson, Jerry Butler.
Funeral service is 4 p.m. Sunday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven, with calling from 1 to 4 p.m. prior to service. Rev. Scott Zeckzer officiating. Burial is in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
