THE GIFT OF MUSIC (with video): Whitko musician on third album

March 29, 2012

COLUMBIA CITY — Three years ago, 15-year-old Ivory West from Whitko High School picked up a guitar that had been hanging on the wall at her home in Pierceton and began strumming the chords. Her father, Rod West, told her if she would practice some basic chords he taught her, she could take lessons. Later, as a Christmas gift, he gave her a certificate for lessons.

Adding songwriting abilities she possessed since third grade, as well as her talented voice, Ivory recorded her first album of songs called Mixed Emotions when she was 13. Having finished recording her second album, Watching Trains, Ivory is currently working on her third album and enjoying every opportunity to work with music.

Currently, Rod said Ivory’s third album was a garage recording, and she is focusing on an online fundraiser to send her to Nashville and Chicago to record with her first full-band. She has raised over a $1,000 with nearly $4,000 more to go by April 16.

The more a person gives toward the trip, the more they will receive.
“There are different prizes at different levels,” said Ivory. “I will even bake cookies for people.”

Visit www.indiegogo.com and search “Ivory West” to help fundraise. Ivory’s albums Mixed Emotions and Watching Trains are both available on iTunes.

Here is video of Ivory performing a cover of Adele's Rolling In The Dark.
