Girls reaching quarter post of the season

November 27, 2013

WHITLEY COUNTY — Before the books close on the month of November, the girls basketball teams of Whitley County will have completed nearly 25 percent of their seasons.

Columbia City
The Lady Eagles are 3-1 and are heading for a Friday game at Fort Wayne North Side.
Columbia City has scored some big wins, avenging losses from last season by beating Marion and Fort Wayne Snider.
It was the first win over Snider in four seasons and the first in two against Marion.
Tuesday, the Lady Eagles lost their first game of the year, falling in overtime to Leo on their home floor in Columbia City.
The Lady Eagles also opened their 2013-14 year with a 81-68 win against Whitko. That victory has gotten more impressive over time, since the Lady Wildcats have not lost since that contest.
Friday’s game with North Side tips off at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Columbia City has not lost to the Lady Redskins in 10 seasons, with the last win for North Side coming in the 2003-04 season.

Whitko
The Lady Wildcats are 3-1 this season and are on a two-game winning streak.
Whitko opened the year with a dominating win over Central Noble. After falling to Columbia City, the Lady Wildcats turned around and beat Churubusco the next night, 56-52.
Last Friday, Whitko got its first win against a Class 4A opponent in several years when it defeated Huntington North 57-51.
The Lady Wildcats will have a chance to make it two in a row against 4A schools when they travel to Warsaw Friday.
The Lady Tigers will have motivation in their game against Whitko, as they are currently 0-3 on the year.
Last year, Warsaw was a regional champion. Whitko played a tight game against the Lady Tigers in 2012, falling by just eight points.
The last time Whitko beat Warsaw was in the 2007-08 season. Friday’s game tips at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Churubusco
Churubusco has opened its 2013-14 at 1-4, and is 0-1 in the Northeast Corner Conference.
’Busco picked up its lone win against Lakeland Christian Academy by a final score of 54-23.
The Lady Eagles, who are in their first year under head coach Dustin Beucler, lost to Fairfield in their first conference game of the year.
Churubusco will have its second conference game of the year Friday. The Lady Eagles will welcome Eastside to their homecourt in ’Busco.
That contest tips off at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Eagles have defeated Eastside in each of the past two seasons, with the last loss in the series for ’Busco coming in the 2010-11 campaign.
