Gladys Hayner

Gladys Irene Hayner passed away Wednesday, June 11 in Columbia City, where she had lived the past six years at Oak Pointe.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Lester D. “Bud” Hayner.
Bud and Gladys were married 61 years prior to his death in 2008. A mother and homemaker, she lived most of her life in Fort Wayne. Retirement years found them living at Lake Wawasee where they loved to share their home with family and friends.
They wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla. Gladys was the fourth daughter of Adolph and Clara (Lapp) Foellinger, and is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mildred Bilger, Margaret Briggs and Dorothy Petit.
Prior to marriage she worked at the GE in Fort Wayne. She later worked several years at North Side High School as a secretary. Gladys is an honorary retired member and past president of Pi chapter of Psi Iota Xi and an avid bridge player. 
Gladys is survived by two children, Charles (Eva) Hayner of Wolcottville, and Claire (Gary) Hicks of Columbia City. Four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren knew the love of this amazing gentle woman.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, Aug. 2 at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, at noon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
 Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice.
