GOING THE DISTANCE: For some, walking makes a world of difference
COLUMBIA CITY — Betty Nelson has run enough miles to have circled the earth almost three times.At approximately age 35, this Columbia City woman started taking her first steps to lead her on a 30-year journey including 40 marathons and more than 70,000 miles under her sneakers. Now at age 67, she is lending her expertise and experience to Whitley County residents who want to accomplish a goal – one step at a time.Whitley Walkers is a group organized to pull walking enthusiasts together in order to train for the Veterans Day Mini Marathon, which will be held in Columbia City, Nov. 9. The group will begin Monday, June 3 at 5 p.m. and train to walk the 13.1 miles.
