GOLF CARTS: City passes ordinance

COLUMBIA CITY — An amendment to the golf cart ordinance was passed on second reading at the Columbia City Common Council meeting Tuesday.
Mayor Ryan Daniel said the change will help the city better determine whether the operator of a golf cart has a city permit.
In order to distinguish whether citizens operating golf carts in the city have a city permit, the ordinance requires a placard or decal to be applied on the golf cart.
“The placard is not yet available,” said Daniel. “We will get the placards out to the individuals who have approved golf carts some time between now and Jan. 1.”
According to the ordinance, beginning Jan. 1, citizens who wish to obtain a permit will also pay a $5 fee.
“Between now and Jan. 1 of 2013, citizens can come and get a free permit,” said Daniel.
Permits are non-transferrable.
