Gov. Daniels to speak at GOP dinner; filings begin for city seats

COLUMBIA CITY — Gov. Mitch Daniels will be the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln Day dinner, according to a news release from the Whitley County Republican party.
The dinner is planned for March 16 at the Eagle’s Nest Event Center. Tickets are $40 per person for the dinner and $100 for a private reception and dinner.

Two file for vacant council seat
Two candidates, one Republican and one Democrat, have filed their candidacies to fill the Northeast district city council seat. Walt Crowder, who has been the district’s representative for many years, is not seeking re-election.
Republican Jacie Worrick and Democrat Charles “Chick” Harker have filed their intentions to run in the May Primary for the Northeast seat.
Democrat Scott Allison, has filed for the Northwest District seat, currently held by Don Sexton. Sexton is giving up his seat to run for mayor.
Other candidates who have filed are incumbents Nicole Penrod (Southeast district) and Dan Weigold (At-large).
The filing deadline for municipal election candidates is noon on Feb. 18.
