Grace Akers, 89

Grace Akers, 89, a former resident of rural Churubusco in Noble County and widow of Donald G. Akers, died at 2:55 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Renaissance Village Nursing Home.
She was born in Van Wert, Ohio Sept. 4, 1922, a daughter of Homer and Lucy D. (Ingmire) Murphy.
She was married in Fort Wayne on Aug. 30, 1942, to Donald G. Akers.
Mr. Akers preceded her in death on April 26, 1994.
Surviving relatives include her children, Thomas D. Akers and Donna Patton, both of Fort Wayne, Mary Jo McEowen of Columbia City, and D. Michael Akers of Churubusco; a sister, Edna Akers of Churubusco; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez Martin, Bernice McMullin, and Ruth Gaunt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Paul Boss, officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday morning.
Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
