GRADUATION: Students awarded diplomas in South Whitley

May 31, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — Red and blue gowns adorned Whitko High School seniors as they paraded into WHS’s gymnasium for its commencement ceremony last night.

The Class of 2013 graduated 122 students and Superintendent Steve Clason described the group as the “best achieving class in Whitko’s history.”
Valedictorian Holly Frantz recounted the comical occurrences during the four years spent at Whitko. Practical jokes, pranks and good memories were relived.

However, it was Salutatorian Stephanie Wheeler that delivered a speech encouraging the class to keep priorities focused on the things that really matter.

Whitko’s Principal David Parker took a moment to remind students to thank those teachers and staff who played a part in the seniors’ success.
“We have worked to help you get here today,” Parker said. “We aren’t perfect, but we have people who care and work hard to see you succeed.”
His advice to the graduates was not to settle, but “swing for the fences.”
