Columbia City football stand-out Jared Murphy was honored with a “Griddy” by the Indiana Football Digest as one of the state’s top players.
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbia City football stand-out Jared Murphy was named to the 2012 Indiana Football Digest Prime-Time 25 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center in Indianapolis March 18.
Each year, over 400 people attend this banquet and award ceremony to recognize the best players, coaches and media representatives in Indiana High School Football.
These current juniors (Class of 2013) will appear on the cover of the 2012 Indiana Football Digest which will debut at the North-South All-Star Classic on July 13 at North Central High School.
Murphy’s award came from his impressive statistics last season.

He also had 30 carries for 145 yards and three rushing TDs. Playing all over the field, Murphy also tallied 385 passing yards for five touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, the ironman had 60 tackles, five for losses and four interceptions.
On special teams, Murphy had 14 kick-off returns for 477 yards and two more TDs.
With receiving, rushing, passing and special teams included, the gridder contributed 1,739 yards of offense to Columbia City’s team last year.
Murphy was honored as MVP of the 2011 6-4 Eagle football team. He also made the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State team as a wide receiver. Last year Murphy made the team at defensive back as a sophomore.
