GRISLY FIND: Flashback for Viet vet

May 10, 2013

WHITLEY COUNTY — “That smell is something you never forget.”

Tom Strack, 64, made a gruesome discovery Wednesday night after he caught wind of an all-too-familiar odor from his past.

Strack, who served his country in Vietnam more than 40 years ago, picked up on the smell of a dead body in his woods Wednesday night.

“It is its own odor,” Strack said. “I recognized it right away.”

Strack, who lives on County Road 800 East north of Old Trail Road, was walking home from his mom’s house on Johnson Road through the trails in his woods.

“I looked around and found a body laying off to the side of the trail,” Strack said.
