Harney nearly breaks record

AKRON — Columbia City’s Evan Harney is setting the pace for the Eagles’ cross country team.

At Saturday’s invitational at Tippecanoe Valley, Harney finished two seconds short of the 30-year-old CCHS record at 15:50, a personal record for Harney who took second at the meet.

The Eagles came in fifth overall, and the girls squad took fourth, led by Samantha Roush.

Roush placed third out of 87 runners with a time of 18:41.

Brooke Werstler was Columbia City’s second best girls runner, finishing 15th at 21 minutes flat.

Samina Qureshi placed 20th, Shelbi Allison came in 22nd, Natalia Johnson finished 24th and Erin Knepple placed 27th.

Columbia City Head Coach Bob Fahl said all the harriers ran season-best times.
