Harney, Roush lead City harrriers

October 1, 2012

FORT WAYNE — Columbia City’s cross country teams, along with the rest of the Northeast Hoosier Conference, competed at The Plex in Fort Wayne for a second week in a row, this time for the conference meet.
Last week, hundreds of runners from all over Northern Indiana competed in the New Haven Classic, where Columbia City’s Evan Harney and Samantha Roush had stand-out performances, placing second and fourth, respectively.

Both Harney and Roush made 1st-team All-Conference on Saturday’s meet. Harney qualified with a time of 16.24, placing seventh overall and Roush with 18.58, placing third overall.

Many of the Eagles typical girls’ varsity runners did not run due to injuries, allowing for several JV girls to step up and take their place.
“We gave them a chance to shine in a real varsity race,” said Head Coach Bob Fahl, and they really stepped it up.”

Columbia City’s boys placed sixth as a team and the girls came in seventh.

Both cross country teams are back in action Oct. 9 for the Northrop sectional.
