COLUMBIA CITY — Republican Laurell Hodges received the majority of votes in the primary election Tuesday, making her a 2012 nominee for the county treasurer position.
The slot was vacated by Lisa Richmond.
“It was just an opportunity that I saw, and I’ve been involved in local politics, and so I just thought it was time for me to take this leap,” said Hodges.
With all votes reported, the day ended with Hodges at 44.34 percent, and her fellow Republican runners, Cindy Doolittle at 39.09 percent and Tami Plew at 16.57 percent.
For Hodges, the win came as a humbling experience.
“I’m very excited,” said Hodges.
“I’m also very honored to be the nominee for the treasurer position in the fall.”
Without the support Hodges received before the primaries, she said she would not be where she is today.
“I would like to thank all my family and friends and supporters because without them, I wouldn’t have been able to do this,” said Hodges.
