Healthy brains: topic of county’s AARP meeting

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Chapter AARP met July 2 at the Woodlands Senior Center. Vice President Martha Meier presided. She opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag followed by a prayer given by Phyllis Swick.

Celebrating a birthday this month is Joann Hinen.

The health report by Swick was a continuation from last month, "How to Age-Proof your Brain.”

The suggested ways to keep a brain young and healthy included:

• Spice up your food
• Find your purpose
• Get a social life
• Reduce your risks, e.g. high blood pressure
• Check for any vitamin deficiency

Betty Mink said there are four more seats available for the Bear Creek Farm trip entitled "Nashville to New York" on August 15.
