Columbia City resident and homemade aircraft designer Junior Geiger focuses on the engine firewall of his wife’s airplane at his home workshop.

COLUMBIA CITY — Have you ever looked to the skies in Columbia City around dusk and seen what looks to be a small airplane flying? Then you’ve probably spotted local resident Ervin “Junior” Geiger Jr. in his homemade ultralight aircraft. The 66-year old Columbia City resident and retired aircraft engineer has been designing and flying aircraft his entire life. “My mom would tell me stories of when I was two or three; I would put popsicle sticks together and fly them around the room,” said Geiger.
