COLUMBIA CITY â Though Zach Rumsyre hasnât been a fireman as long as many others in Whitley County, he has his sights aimed high.
Rumsyre, who has been a volunteer fireman with Jefferson Center Fire Department since 2004, has already worked his way into a captainâs position.
âIt is my goal to become a career firefighter,â Rumsyre said.
Rumsyre said he spends a lot of time at the fire station in Jefferson Township looking for ways to improve.
âI believe that even being a volunteer department, our community expects the same level of care and protection as a large city â and we should be able to provide it,â Rumsyre said. âWe can always improve, so I spend a lot of time at the station going over equipment or trying to figure out a way to make things easier.â
