April 13, 2012

For the past six years, the product of women artists from Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman's Celebration of Hoosier Women Artists competition has graced her office. At the end of March, she recognized the 11 winners of the 2012 competition during a statehouse ceremony.

Congratulations to the following women:

Jeanne Amsler, Evansville, The Ross Theatre
Amanda Fruits, Brownsburg, Hostas and Coneflowers
Sarah Hackney, Indianapolis, Amazing Maize
Brenda Jalaie, Zionsville, Super Charged Super Cars
Savreen Kaur, Bloomington, Colors of Griffy Lake
Nancy Kehlenbrink, Indianapolis, Contemplative
Joy Kirchgessner, Corydon, Calico Catnap
Valerie McBride, Grabill, Above & Below
Kendal Miller, Dillsboro, Garden Door
Sherry Pike, Mooresville, Christmas Memories
Joni Walker, Columbia City, Winter

Skillman began the Hoosier Women Artists competition as a way to celebrate Women’s History month. It has also proved to be an excellent way to bring new life to the statehouse office, where portraits of former Governors and Lt. Governors have traditionally been displayed.

"While our state’s history is important, I wanted to use that very public space to honor living Hoosiers as well," said Skillman.
