COLUMBIA CITYâ A Columbia City man received a 10-year prison sentence for manufacturing methamphetamine.
David A. Greer, 23, was ordered Monday to serve the entirety of his 10-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC) by Whitley County Circuit Court Judge James Heuer.
In his statement, Greerâs attorney, Brad Voelz, said his client should be commended for accepting responsibility for his actions early in the process.
âIn my 15 years in this court, the one thing that I have seen that is the greatest predictor of success is when a person comes in and says, âyes, I was guilty. I did this, I need to turn things around. I accept full responsibility,ââ Voelz said. âThey donât see the sentence as a punishment, but as an opportunity to take advantage of court programs and probation and to leave that life behind them.â
Greer pleaded guilty approximately one month after his arrest. He apologized in court Monday for his actions.
âI would like to apologize to the surrounding community,â he said. âI accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the sentence accordingly.â
Whitley County Prosecutor Matt Rentschler said Greerâs past arrests, as well as problems with probation, gave him doubts.
