SOUTH WHITLEY — Since Logan Irwin was a young boy his father Rob knew he was going to be a good basketball player. What Rob didn’t know, however, is just how good his son would be.

Logan joined the top scorers in the state after surpassing his 2,000th point Friday night in Whitko’s home game against North Miami. The sharp-shooter’s 27 points lifted his career scoring to 2,015 and helped the Wildcats to a 85-62 win over the Warriors.

Logan’s mom, Krista, said she felt the same as Rob — nervous.

He is currently the eighth top scorer in Northeast Indiana, just four points behind Churubusco’s Jeff Perlich (2,019). Logan said he isn’t working to reach a certain number of points by the end of the year, “I’m just playing,” he said.

Irwin scored 552 points his junior year. He broke the school’s all-time scoring record last year and has continued to raise the bar this season, averaging over 20 points per game.

The Wildcats took a 23-17 lead at the end of the first quarter with Logan Irwin just seven points away from the milestone. Alex Stoddard had 10 first-quarter points and 20 on the game, second only to Irwin.

Irwin went on a scoring-spree late in the second period, scoring seven points in less than a minute to hit 2,000 points. The game was stopped and Irwin was recognized for his feat.

Irwin went on to score 15 more points in the game. The Wildcats had a 42-27 lead at halftime and extended it to 25 points by the end of the third.

The game finished with a 75-47 score.
