ISMS spellers only N. Ind. team going to state

COLUMBIA CITY — Spelling words like diluvial, propinquity and ungulate, the Indian Springs Middle School Spell Bowl team came in first place among seven Class 1 schools Tuesday at the Indiana Academic Spell Bowl Junior Division area contest held at Indian Springs.

A total of 18 schools competed in three different classes.

This area contest was one of 18 held throughout the state Tuesday night.

Eight rounds of nine words each are held for a total of 72 possible words in competition.

Competing in Class 1 was Indian Springs with 55 words spelled correctly, Woodside Middle School with 51, Carroll Middle Schools with 37, Maple Creek Middle School with 29, Blackhawk Middle School with 26, Jefferson Middle School with a 21 and Shawnee Middle School with 11.

No other Whitley County team competed in this year’s competition.

Class 2 winner was Memorial Park Middle School with 37 words spelled correctly.
