COLUMBIA CITY — “It’s an honor and a privilege,” said Gene Smith at Columbia City’s Rotary Club meeting last week.

Smith will become the new club president today. Smith had a chance to present his plans for his year as the club’s chief officer.

Smith started his remarks by recognizing some of the club members whom he considered key to the success of the Rotary Club.

Ben Romine, the immediate past president, did an “outstanding job” of completing a long-term goal for the scholarship endowment. Now the club can offer $5,000 in scholarship money every year and not rely on fundraisers to pay for it.

Smith also touted Mike Rush as a “jewel for his musical contributions every week” as accompanist for the weekly singing.

Al Anderson was thanked for his skills as a salesman in selling tickets each week for our 50/50 raffle.
