James Franklin Hewitt, age 84, of Kimmell, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 5, 1927 in Elkhart to Lee and Leafa Mae (Locke) Hewitt. He married Helga Brathearing, who survives.
He retired as a sergeant from the United States Army after 20 years of service and served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Helga, one daughter, Leona Gordon of Larwell; one step-daughter, Manuela Coburn of North Webster and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Dr. Gordon Rankin officiating.
Memorial contributions are to Ormas Baptist Church, Columbia City.
