James G. â€śJimâ€ť Ramey, 86, of LaFontaine, died at 6:15 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor East in Wabash.
He was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Grundy, Va., to Wyatt and Lucy (Stiltner) Ramey.
Jim married Bonnie Pefley on June 24, 1970 in Wabash. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 19th field artillery. He worked for 18 years in the coal mines of Virginia, and then worked at Fisher Body in Marion for 27 years, retiring in 1988. He attended Grace Fellowship Church and enjoyed wood working.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ramey of LaFontaine; six children, James D. Ramey of Bryan, Ohio, Robert G. (Tammy) Ramey and Sue (Ben) Metzger both of Columbia City, Indiana, Brad (Debbie) Hall of Wabash, Linda (Robert) Sopher of Pella, Iowa, and Judy Green of North Manchester; eight grandchildren, Destiny (Harry) Boggs of Huntington, Deborah (Deryl) Fairchild of Roanoke, Indiana, R.J. Ramey and Adem Ramey both of Columbia City, Scott (Carrie) Green of North Manchester, Shawnae (David) Lambert of Pella, Alyssa Wheeler of Greensburg, Indiana, and Adam (Jade) Hall of Wabash, 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Irvin Ramey of Grundy (Nancy) Virginia. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services were held today at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Bill Bowling and Rev. Rick Harrison officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorial is Grace Fellowship Church.
