James Wymer, 60

James Leon Wymer, 60, fell ill during a family vacation in Petoskey, Mich. He died four days later on Dec. 5, 2013, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, Petoskey, Mich. surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 24, 1953, in York, Pa., a son of William C. Hayes and Roseann Dinges.
He spent his formative years in York, Pa. Later the family moved to Bedford, where he graduated from Oolitic High School in 1971.
On July 11, 1981, he was united in marriage to Carol S. Voyles. They made their home in Columbia City.
He spent his work career at Dana Weatherhead, Columbia City, as a machine operator. He was a union steward at the plant and a member of UAW 1404, Columbia City. He was a member of the former Fraternal Order of Eagles, Columbia City.
He loved and cherished his family and friends. He enjoyed volunteering at The Oaks, and had a special fondness for giving back to local children’s charities.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol; a son, Christopher (Jenn) Wymer of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Lindsay (Daniel) Omlor of Fort Wayne; a granddaughter, Gabrielle Raegan Wymer of Fort Wayne; three brothers, Gene (Mary) Wymer of Norfolk, Va., Bill (Alice) Wymer of Gretna, Va., Rick (Diane) Wymer of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Joann Smith of York, Pa. and Sharon Robinson of Bloomington; and a beloved friend, Jon Sallot of South Whitley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Brown and Bonnie Tidd and three brothers, Fred, Barry and Jerry Wymer.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery, Rome City. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
For those who prefer giving memorials, bring an unwrapped, new children’s toy to the funeral home. The family will distribute them to the local children’s charities on Jim’s behalf.
