Jane G. Stump, 97, a former resident of South Whitley, died early Monday Feb. 25, 2013, in the Richland Bean Blossom Healthcare Center, Ellettsville.
She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Chicago, a daughter of C. Vance and Blanche Sines Green.
At the age of three, her family moved to South Whitley where she spent her formative years. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1933 and Manchester College in 1936. After receiving her teaching degree, she taught for three years in the Larwill grade school.
On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Stump and they made their first home in Lyndon, N.J., later moving to South Holland, Ill. and in 1944, moved to South Whitley.
In 1949, she started teaching kindergarten in South Whitley schools for five years, then moved to Michigan, returning to South Whitley in 1957. She continued her teaching career, retiring in 1983 as a first grade teacher. Mr. Stump preceded her in death on March 10, 1990.
She was a member of Church of God.
Surviving relatives include two sons, David (Daphne) Stump of Charlotte, N.C. and Jim (Mary) Stump of North Webster; a daughter, Maryanne (Rick) Smith of Unionville; four grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Brock of Newland, N.C.
A daughter, Mary Jane and a brother, Robert C. Green preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday in the Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, with the Rev. Dennis Judy officiating. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery.
