Jay Couch, Jr., 46

James “Jay” Stanley Couch Jr., 46, of Columbia City, died at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 9, 1966, in Harlan, Ky., a son of James S. and Yolanda J. (Hedrick) Couch Sr. As a young boy, his family moved to Thorncreek Township.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1985.
In 1985, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1993.
He worked at Contects in Larwill, Reelcraft and later Dana PTG for 16 years.
Surviving relatives include his father, James Sr. of Hiram, Ky.; four brothers and a sister, Ed (Wendy) Couch of Harlan Ky., Mike Couch of Nappanee, Scott (Jessica) Couch of Columbia City, Trina (Jamison) Nuttle of Churubusco and Darren (Marcia) Didier of Columbia City.
His mother preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation or service. A private burial will be held at a later date at South Park Annex Cemetery.
Arrangements are being completed by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials are to VA Social Services in Marion.
