Jerry Allen Geiger, 66, of Columbia City, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. Born June 17, 1945 in Columbia City, he was the son of Russell J. and Margaret E. (Hazen) Geiger.
A lifetime resident of Columbia City, he graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1963.
On June 18, 1966 he married Cheryl Doty in Columbia City where they established their home. In 2003, he retired from Navistar with 30 years of service. His memberships included Eagles Lodge #1906 and the UAW Local 57.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Cheryl Geiger of Columbia City; son, Jeff Geiger of Columbia City; daughters, Jainele (Curt) Smith of Larwill and Julie (Donnie) Haire of Angola; mother, Margaret Geiger; sisters, Judy (Ed) Demske and Joan (Joe) Miller; brother, Jess (Kay) Geiger all of Columbia City; sisters-in-law, Barb Geiger of Columbia City and Barb (Steve) Crozier; grandchildren, Emma Smith, Logan and Landon Haire; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell J. Geiger, and brother, James R. Geiger.
Visitation is Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service is Thursday, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Johnson of Oak Grove Church of God officiating.
Burial will follow at Union Township Cemetery, Coesse, Whitley County. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Geiger to the Geiger Grandchildrenâ€™s College Fund.
