Jerry Young, 64

Jerry Lee Young, 64, died on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at his residence in Churubusco.
Mr. Young was born in Kendallville June 23, 1947, to the late Preston E. and Eva (Snyder) Young.
He graduated from Albion Jefferson High School in 1965 and Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago.
The Vietnam War was being fought and Jerry entered the U.S. Army, taking his basic training at Fort Leonardwood in Missouri.
After basic training, he came home to get married and took Barbara Ann Deck to be his bride on Dec. 31, 1966, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ege.
He then left for the Vietnam War and proudly served his country from 1966 to 1969.
Jerry was decorated with the Purple Heart for injuries he received in battle.
He also received the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars, the Rifle Sharpshooter Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Jerry and Barb have lived all of their married life in Churubusco and he was employed for 36 years at Essex Wire and Cable in Columbia City.
He attended Faith Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #157 both in Churubusco.
Jerry was a Purdue University sports fan and loved to refurbish and repair old bicycles, collect cardinal figurines, go to garage sales.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Young of Churubusco; son, Senior Airman John L. (Tina) Young, II, U.S. Air Force and Mark E. (Jackie) Young of Churubusco; daughter, Amy (Josh) Middleton of Arnold, Md.; eight grandchildren; brother, Ernest (Judy) Young of Fort Wayne; sister, Patricia (Bill) Pontzius of Ligonier and brother, Dennis (Eileen) Young of Columbia City.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 9251 East State Road 205 in Churubusco.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church.
Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Dr. Lane Burgland.
Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Churubusco American Legion honor guard and active duty troops from the Army National Guard.
Memorials are to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home of Fort Wayne.
Northern Indiana Funeral Care of Fort Wayne is in charge of the arrangements.
