Joellen L. Fitch, 63, of rural Larwill, died at 3:37 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at Vibra Hospital, Fort Wayne. She had been battling cancer.
She was born Nov. 8, 1950 in Wolf Lake. She was raised in Larwill and attended Larwill High School. She earned a GED and was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She also held a realtor license.
On Nov. 25, 1967, she was united in marriage to Ralph Fitch. They made their home in the Larwill area.
She was employed by Whitley Products, Pierceton for 10 years and then Dana/PTG/Coupled Products, Columbia City, for approximately 25 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), UAW local 2049 and the Larwill Wesleyan Church.
She loved her family and grandchildren. During the summer she enjoyed showing horses with her grandchildren and helping them prepare for 4-H events. She passed on her secret recipes in confidence to her grandchildren.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Ralph; a daughter, Katrina (John) Osterman of Larwill and four grandchildren, Conner Fitch, Olivia Morrow, Lukeus Morrow and JT Osterman.
The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service.
