John C. Bishop, 73, a lifelong resident of South Whitley, died at 2:06 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City where he was admitted on Wednesday.
He was born March 19, 1937 in South Whitley a son of Clair C. and Georgia Doris (Rubrake) Bishop. He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1955.
From December 1956 until December 1961 he served in the United States Army.
On March 18, 1961 he was united in marriage to Marilyn K. Boxell.
He was employed at Manchester Tool & Die for 35 years.
His memberships include South Whitley United Methodist Church or South Whitley Lions Club.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 50 years, Marilyn; two children, Sabra (Walt) Maurer of Fort Wayne and Victor (Jacki) Bishop of South Whitley; four grandchildren, Christina Maurer, Tabatha (Luke) North, April Bishop and Rozlyn Bishop; a great-grandson, Braiden Maurer-Wright; a brother, Larry Bishop of Huntington; and two sisters, Doris Brandenburg of South Whitley and Eunice Ware of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Max and Robert; and a sister, Clarice Drake.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
