Joseph Shaffer, 80

COLUMBIA CITY — Joseph D. Shaffer, 80, of rural Columbia City, passed away peacefully at 11:23 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at his home with his family at his side. 
Joe was a veteran from the German occupation to the Korean War. 
He retired as a tool and die maker from Tokhiem Corporation after 44 years and continued farming.  
Joe is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Stella; four daughters, Penny Shaffer, Pam (Carl) Emley, Paula (Ellis) Sturgill and Polly (David) Cox; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Autumn. 
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
