Junk ordinance raises controversy
COLUMBIA CITY — What began as a violation of the county junk ordinance has evolved into court-ordered clean up with additional investigations pending.Whitley County Commissioners worked with health and safety officials to declare the property of Thomas Ebetino, located at County Road 400 South, in violation of the junk ordinance and the home was deemed unsafe for several reasons. However, as bids for clean up and debris removal were officially opened at the Dec. 16 meeting, the Commissioners also addressed a potential violation for illegal burning. Several complaints have been filed by residents living near Ebetino’s property, and reports have been made to local authorities that have now gained the attention of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. To read the rest of this story, see the Dec. 23 issue of The Post and Mail.
