Keith Cleland, 82

Keith E. “Sonny” Cleland, 82, of rural Larwill died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor where he had been a resident since September.
He was born July 30, 1928 in Columbia City, a son of Carl and Ester Cleland. He spent his formative years in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City High School.
Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a corporal in the Korean War.
On Feb. 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joyce A. Menzie. The made their home outside of Larwill.
He was employed by Whitley Products, Columbia City and then Pierceton for 45 years. He retired as a foreman in 1989. He was a member of American Legion Post 98 and an avid Notre Dame fan.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; two children, Debbie Thornhill of New Castle and David Cleland of South Whitley; four grandchildren, Andrew R. Cleland of South Whitley, Adam Ressler of Spencerville, Vanessa (Billy) Anderson of Fort Wayne and Annie (Chad) Tipmore of Sarasota, Fla.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Rosalie VanWey preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
