COLUMBIA CITY — After an absence of a year, a local family is filling what it calls a “need” in Columbia City.

George and Jane Kilgore, along with their daughter Stephanie, are reopening the former Hammond Oil location on North Line Street.

Renaming the business Kilgore Oil, the family plans to bring back a full-service fuel station to the community.

“We just saw a need,” George said. “Everyone was saying, ‘someone needs to open that.’”

In a piece of calendar symmetry, Kilgore Oil will open almost exactly one year after Hammond Oil closed. Kilgore Oil will open April 1, and Hammond Oil closed for good March 31 of 2013.
