LABOR DAY WEEKEND: City allows fireworks this Saturday

August 30, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Board of Works made an exception to the fireworks ordinance for this weekend.

According to the ordinance, on this holiday weekend fireworks are only allowed on Labor Day and the Sunday before.

Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel said a citizen requested that an exemption be made for Saturday as well.

The Board of Works agreed, and an exception was made for Saturday until midnight.

“It just makes a lot of sense,” Daniel said. “We may possibly permanently change the ordinance as well.”

Daniel and the Board of Works agreed it would be appropriate for Saturdays on both Memorial and Labor Day weekends.
