SOUTH WHITLEY â€” Whitko's softball team dropped a double-header to Three Rivers Conference foe Northfield Monday night.
Despite outhitting the Lady Norsemen 8-7, Whitko fell 6-3 in game two, and 6-4 in game one.
In game one, the conference tilt was tied 2-2 at the end of the first inning. Each team scored again in the third, tying the score at three.
Northfield picked up an unanswered run in the top of the fifth, but Whitko found home plate again in the sixth, tying the score again at four.
The Lady Norsemen went on a 2-0 run in the seventh to take the win, 6-4.
Despite the loss, Emily Weigold scored two runs and stole two bases. She pitched all seven innings, allowing two earned runs and seven hits.
Weigold struck out six.
In game two, Northfield took an early lead and never gave it up.
The Lady Norsemen scored a run in the opening inning and two more in the fifth to take a 3-0 advantage.
Whitko attempted to come back in the sixth, sending two runners across home plate, but Northfield scored three more runs in the top of the seventh.
The sixth-inning spark came from Lancaster, who had an RBI single, followed by an RBI double by Kennedy Hart.
Lancaster batted 2-for-3 for the Lady Wildcats, including an RBI and a run.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hannah Himes led off inning with a double. Christa Baughman helped the Lady Wildcats close their deficit to 6-3 with an RBI single to score Himes, but the comeback fell short of the win, 6-3.
Pitchers Hannah Cokl and Tori Silveus combined to allow seven hits, one earned run and two walks. The pair struck out five.View more articles in:
