SOUTH WHITLEY — Eight players return to Whitko’s softball team with varsity experience and will lead the squad in 2013.

The Lady Wildcats finished last year with a record of 6-19. They lost to Heritage 2-1 in eight innings last year in the opening round of sectional play.

Looking at the sectional for 2013, Whitko coach Brad Clark said his team could do well against the competition.

“We match up pretty well,” he said. “We played a couple of the teams last year and we had some pretty competitive games against those teams. Norwell was at the top of the heap last season and that’s where we’re trying to get to.”

It’s Clark’s first year at the helm for the Lady Wildcats, and the first year in the program for two other coaches.

“We’re just trying to learn,” he said. “And the girls are trying, and that just throws another wrinkle into it, having a new coaching staff.”

Clark expects one leader for the team to be Hannah Himes at catcher.
