Lady ’Cats pummel Mississinewa, 73-43

GAS CITY — Whitko’s girls basketball team is advancing to the semi-finals in this week’s battle for the sectional title after beating host Mississinewa on its home court Tuesday, 73-43.

After a competitive 12-8 first quarter, the Lady Wildcats built a comfortable lead in the second period and maintained it throughout the rest of the game.

Whitko began the second quarter with 10 unanswered points and held the Lady Indians scoreless for almost four minutes.

Whitko had a 32-18 lead at halftime.

The Lady ’Cats held Mississinewa to seven points while nearly doubling their own score in the third quarter, adding 24 points to the board.
Olinske had nine points in the quarter and Sylvester, Cagney Craig, Melanie Kelsey, Lynsi Hicks, Katee Reiff, Bailee Juillerat and Jordan Hall all chipped in points for Whitko.

The score at the end of the third period was 56-25.

The Lady Indians matched the Lady Wildcats’ scoring in the fourth quarter at 17.

Senior Megan Zumbrun hit the final bucket of the game to end the game with the score at 73-43.

Olinske led the Lady ’Cats in scoring with 17, followed by Sylvester who tallied 13. Craig was the third Lady Wildcat to score in double digits at 11 and Bailee Juillerat had nine while Reiff contributed eight and Hall chipped in six.

Also scoring for Whitko was Hicks with five and Zumbrun and Josie Sparks with two each.

The Lady Wildcats advance to play Bellmont in the first game (6 p.m.) Friday night at Mississinewa.
