Lady Eagle tennis takes win over Leo, 4-1

LEO — Columbia City’s girls tennis team got a big win against Leo Wednesday.

It was a 4-1 win for the Lady Eagles over the Lady Lions. Celine Rongos of Columbia City defeated Jen Timbrook of Leo, 6-2, 6-1 in number-one singles.

In number-three singles, Adriana Brown of Columbia City beat Lea Hughbanks 6-4 and 2-1 before Hughbanks retired.

Columbia City’s number-one doubles pair of Sydney Ford and Macie Hinen beat Leo’s duo of Cassie Aker and Brooke Seibel, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) and the Lady Eagle number-two doubles team of Breanna hicks and Alaina Becker beat Sophia Roselle and Abbey Keele, 6-2, 6-3.

The lone Lady Eagle loss was in number-two singles, where Kennedy Slavicek fell to Annya Mohlman, 6-3, 6-2.

Columbia City’s girls are now 5-7 for the year overall.

In JV action, Katie Doehrmann and Hannah Schuck picked up singles wins for the Lady Eagles and the doubles pair of Bayle Smith and Cassie Bosselman also earned a win for Columbia City.

The Lady Eagles will next play tonight at home against New Haven in the “For the Love of Isaac” match to raise funds for the Rentschler family.
