COLUMBIA CITY — You know it’s a tough ballgame when the losing pitcher who strikes out the first eleven batters she faces, only gives up two hits for the game and gets defeated 3-0.
That’s exactly what happened to the Homestead Lady Spartans when they visited the Columbia City Lady Eagles for a Northeast Hoosier Conference softball game on a wet cold Wednesday evening.
The Lady Eagles parlayed a Spartan error and two hits from the bottom of the order and 14 strikeouts from pitcher Cassie Vodde into a 3-0 win.
For the first four innings the Lady Eagles got out of one jam after another as the Lady Spartans stranded five base runners. Homestead left runners on third base in the second and third innings.
The Eagles gave up only a single hit in the Lady Spartans’ last two innings to preserve the win.
“I am just so proud of these kids,” said Cox. “Our nine hitter through one hitter really came through. That was a big game for us in the conference.”
The win raises the Lady Eagles’ overall record to 8-5 as they remain undefeated in the NHC with a 2-0 mark.
Columbia City returns to action on Friday traveling to Fort Wayne Northrop.View more articles in:
