CHURUBUSCO — In Tuesday evening’s Northeast Corner Conference battle of Lady Eagle softball teams, the host Churubusco Lady Eagles used a big nine-run fourth inning to hand the visiting Fremont Lady Eagles a 14-1 loss.
The hosts gave up only a single and a walk in the first three innings to the visitors, as Churubusco pitcher Courtney Luttman enticed five fly-outs in the first three stanzas to go along with infield ground outs.
The host Lady Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when lead-off batter Kasey Gibson reached on a Fremont error, stole second and third then scored to give Churubusco a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
In the second inning, the host Lady Eagles bumped the lead up to 4-0 after shortstop Lacey Pulley drew a walk and scored when Luttman doubled.
Cassidy Perlich reached on a Fremont error, stole second and then scored on a single by Gibson. Gibson stole second, went to third on a Fremont wild pitch and scored on a single by catcher Chandler Blake, giving Churubusco a 4-0 lead after two innings.
