Lady Eagles sweep New Haven

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s tennis team swept a Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Thursday, defeating New Haven 5-0.

The Lady Eagles took the win on a special fundraising night. Columbia City’s girls tennis team, led by Head Coach Kathleen Myers, raised money for Isaac Rentschler, a second grader who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Isaac, a student of Myers’, is currently undergoing treatment for a form of eye cancer.

The Lady Eagles honored Isaac in prime fashion, with Celine Rongos and Adriana Brown taking sweeping 6-0, 6-0 wins in No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

The No. 2 doubles pair of Breanna Hicks and Alaina Beckner won 6-1, 6-0, and Kennedy Slavicek took a 6-0, 6-4 win in No. 3 singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Macie Hinen and Sydney Ford played a tighter match with their New Haven opponents. After losing the first set 7-5, the duo won 6-1, 6-0 to take the match.
