Lady Eagles tripped up by Norwell, 12-0

June 2, 2014

Columbia City’s Maddie Hamman steps to catch a fly ball for an out Saturday morning in the sectional title game against Norwell.

After big wins in the first two rounds of sectional action, Columbia City’s softball team’s season came to an end in the championship game after a difficult loss to Norwell Saturday morning.

The sectional hosts took full advantage of their homefield advantage, winning 12-0 in five innings.

The Lady Knights came out swinging in the first inning.

With no outs, Norwell loaded the bases, then took advantage of some Lady Eagle miscues to score eight runs before Columbia City got its first out. Norwell snuck in another run before the Lady Eagles got the third out of the frame to take a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, Columbia City managed to get two runners on base, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning with no runs.

Norwell tacked on another run in the top of the second inning with one out, before a Columbia City pitching change swapped Brooke Sands for Amanda Sands.
