Lady Eagles win sectional opener

Columbia City’s girls tennis team topped Wawasee in the opening round of sectional play Wednesday night at Warsaw.

The Lady Eagles took a 4-1 victory and will advance to play Whitko tonight in the sectional semi-final. The Lady Eagles’ lone loss came in the No. 1 singles match.

Rachel Flauding fell to a tough opponent, Katy Ashpole, 6-1, 6-1. In. No 2 singles, Columbia City’s Aubrey Wright won 6-4, 6-0 over Jada Antonides.

In No. 3 singles, Katie Doerhmann won a close match over Chelsea Carolus, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. The No. 1 doubles squad of Sydney Ford and Macie Hinen took an easy victory over Wawasee’s Erin Wiktorowski and Addison Ayers, 6-2, 6-0.

In No. 2 doubles action, Cassie Bosselman and Bayley Smith beat Wawasee’s Jaclyn Miller and Jazlyn Gehlhausen 6-0, 6-3.
