SOUTH WHITLEY — Big defensive efforts and excellent goalkeeper play forced a 0-0 tie between Whitko and Manchester Wednesday.

Whitko Girls Head Soccer Coach Gary Sims said he was surprised, and that it could have been a different result.

“It was a shock to me because of how we played,” he said. “They controlled the ball the whole game. It seemed like we only played for about five minutes at a time.”

One difficulty for the Lady Wildcats was that career-leading scorer Ellyana Blue was focused on by the Lady Squires.

“They know Ellie, they’ve seen her for years now,” Sims said. “We tried to not take it to the corner, which she usually does. We tried to go to the middle more. In the past, I would just tell her to ‘go, go, go.’ Now everyone is keying on her.”
