Lady Wildcats lifts Miami County title

December 31, 2010

Whitko girls’ basketball took home hardware over the holiday break Thursday night at North Miami High School. Advancing to the championship game of the Miami County Tournament, the Lady Wildcats (7-6) used a 25-13 lead at halftime to go on to beat Peru (5-7) 48-37. With the Lady Tigers cutting the lead to as little as three points in the third quarter, Whitko forced nine turnovers in the final period to pull away. Whitko’s members of the all-tournament team led the way. Micaela Sylvester topped all scorers with a game-high 18 points. Karissa Olinske followed posting 10 of her own. The Lady Wildcats shot 28-for-33 from the free throw line. The title comes after Whitko fell to Peru in the same championship title game in 2009. Left, senior Rachelle Kessie (33) and teammates lift their traveling trophy.
