Larry Ruse, 71

SOUTH WHITLEY — Larry L. Ruse, 71, of South Whitley, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 21, 2011 at his home. He had been battling cancer.
He was born Oct. 26, 1939 in Kosciusko County, a son of Alfonso “Von” and Cloris (Krider) Ruse.
His formative years were spent in South Whitley. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1957.
On June 15, 1957, he entered the U.S. Army. He was released from active duty and entered the army reserve on June 30, 1960. He was honorably discharged June 21, 1963.
On April 4, 1981 he was united in marriage to Sandra K. Lewis. They made their home in South Whitley.
He was employed at Gripco, South Whitley for more than 25 years as a machinist and supervisor. He was then employed by Kilgore Manufacturing and later Reelcraft.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sandra; three children, Lisa Ruse, South Whitley, Melody Hartman, New Paris and Michael Ruse, South Whitley; two step daughters, Jill Horton, Rockingham, N.C. and Dawn “Mickey” (Mark) Kienzler, Carson, Va.; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Walter (Elaine) Ruse, South Whitley and half-sister, Joanna Lutes, Atwood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Dean Ruse.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery with military honors. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
