Lawrence Dean â€śShortyâ€ť Henney, 81, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor Inc., Columbia City.
Born June 22, 1932, in Columbia City, he was the son of Clair E. and Bessie M. (Lawrence) Henney.
He was a lifetime resident of Jefferson Township, graduating from Jefferson Center High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force, from 1949-1954. On Feb. 14, 1954, he married Shirla J. Anderson in Columbia City. He retired from International Harvester, Fort Wayne with 25 years of service and Whitley County School Corporation, Columbia City, with 10 years of service, retiring in 1986.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirla J. Henney of Columbia City; sons, Meredith (Cheryl) Henney of Columbia City; Walter Henney of Columbia City; daughters, Diana (Jerry) Tyrrell of Churubusco; Roberta Henney of Indianapolis; Linda Henney of Columbia City; Debra Sulrzycki of Las Vegas, N.V.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Bair of Rome City; Alice (Charles) Eason of Presido, Texas; brother, Matthew (Ellen) Henney of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Norma Zartman and Betty Hicks.
Visitation will be held Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at funeral home with Pastor Carroll McNutt officiating, with burial at Broxon Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Henneyâ€™s to American Diabetes Association or to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
